Angel M. Rife (Peiffer), 49, of Mercersburg, died at the scene of a head-on crash into a 2006 Peterbilt 357 dump truck at 10148 Welsh Run Road/PA 995 in Montgomery Township, Mercersburg near Greencastle on Jan. 30, PSP Chambersburg Trooper Kevin Rhodes detailed in a follow-up release that evening.

Trooper Megan Frazer explained that first responders were initially called to the multi-vehicle crash between Bradley and Montgomery Church roads at 9:21 a.m. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.

While Rife had been driving her 2013 Chevrolet Cruze north, for an unknown reason she left her lane — crossing the double yellow lanes going into the southbound lane of on-coming traffic — striking the truck head-on, Trooper Rhodes explained.

Her Cruze was left on the side of the road facing east and the dump truck stopped in the roadway with his passenger side facing west, according to Rhodes. Both vehicles were disabled and towed from the scene by Daves Truck Repair and Parts of Chambersburg

Rife was treated by MMPW Ambulance Squad at the scene before the Franklin County Coroner's Office came to pronounce her dead.

Jeffrey Holtry, 65 of Newburg, who was driving the dump truck was unharmed, according to PSP.

There were no witnesses to the crash, Rhodes said.

Rife was a former school bus driver in Mercersburg, according to a 2015 crash report, Public Opinion reported at the time.

One of her new co-workers says she will be missed at work, most recently she'd been working at Lowe's according to social media.

Angel was a class of 1992 graduate of James Buchanan High School. She liked to spend time with family, attending her son's tractor pulls, and she "enjoyed spoiling her grand-dog," as stated in her obituary.

She's survived by her son Jakob W. (Sara) Rife; her parents, Dean (Beverly) Peiffer; a brother, Bobby (Chris) Peiffer; and extended family, according to her obituary.

A memorial service was held for Angel on Saturday, Feb. 3. at Mt. Tabor Brethren-Christ Church in Mercersburg with Pastor Kevin Lay officiating.
